Collection: National Writers Union

The National Writers Union has a 43-year history of fighting for the rights of creative workers, from winning Freelance Isn't Free legislation to guarantee basic protections for freelance workers in multiple cities and states, to recovering stolen wages from employers, to marching and organizing critics' solidarity with the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA, to standing in solidarity with journalists abroad and joining other unions in condemning the attempted genocide of the Palestinian people.

As Toni Morrison said in her keynote speech at the American Writers Congress in 1981 — the same event where a vote was passed to establish the National Writers Union — "We don't need any more writers as solitary heroes. We need a heroic writers' movement—assertive, militant, pugnacious."

We're building that movement for all media workers. Will you join us?
