Collection: Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ)

SURJ is a national organization that organizes white communities for racial and economic justice. Founded in 2009 by Southerners mentored by white Civil Rights leaders, SURJ is an answer to the decades-long call from BIPOC leadership for white people to organize our own. Alongside our movement partners, we have organized millions of white people to stop new jails from being built, get police out of public schools, stop Trump in 2020, and put social justice-aligned leaders in office. We are made up of a national organizing community of thousands, over 100 chapters, and a constellation of local projects in small towns and rural communities across the South. We believe all of us-- white people too-- will be better off in a world where there is racial and economic justice.
